PRIVACY POLICY
This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
Last updated: July 15, 2026
1. Data we collect
We collect only what we need to provide Udemie:
- Account and billing information, so we can provide paid access. Payments are handled by our payment providers.
- A device identifier, used to validate your license and to prevent abuse of rate‑limited features.
- Your email address, if you choose to subscribe to product updates.
- Basic usage information, to understand how the product is used and improve it.
- When you use AI summaries, the transcript of the lecture you choose to summarize (see “AI‑powered features”).
2. How we use data
We use data to operate and improve Udemie, provide the features you request, offer support, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal data.
3. AI‑powered features
Udemie offers optional AI‑generated lecture summaries. When a summary is generated—automatically a few seconds after you open a lecture, or when you request one—the lecture’s transcript (derived from its subtitle track) is sent to our servers and forwarded to a third‑party AI provider (currently OpenRouter, which may route the request to an underlying model provider) for the sole purpose of producing your summary. That text is handled under the AI provider’s terms, and we do not use it for advertising. You can turn automatic summaries off in the app’s settings, in which case no transcript is sent unless you explicitly ask for a summary.
4. Newsletter and product updates
If you opt in—from the app or the website—we store your email address to send you news about fixes, updates, and new features. You can ask us to remove you at any time using the contact options on the site.
5. Browser extension
Our optional Chrome extension reads the address of the course page you are viewing on supported sites (Udemy, Coursera, LinkedIn Learning) only when you choose to send it, and passes that URL to the Udemie app running on your own computer. It does not collect your cookies, credentials, browsing history, page content, or media.
6. Cookies and analytics
We use privacy‑friendly product analytics to understand usage and improve Udemie. You can control cookies in your browser settings.
7. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data. Contact us to exercise them.
8. Contact
Questions or requests related to privacy can be sent via the contact options listed on the site.
